A lawyer representing the Nigerian government in a US$44 billion (euro28 billion) lawsuit against three international tobacco companies told a court Monday that one of the defendants, Philip Morris, has refused a court summons.
"We have attempted to serve them three times; they have refused," lawyer Mariam Uwais said.
Judge Binta Murtala-Nyako said the company would be summoned through a notice published in Switzerland, the home of its parent company, and that Philip Morris would have 30 days from the publication to defend the lawsuit in the Abuja court.
