Oh, Christmas tree, Faux Christmas tree; Do some homework on your landscape before choosing your live tree

Alternative to a cut Christmas tree is a potted evergreen thatmight be planted outside after the festive season.

"It's a popular notion for people who like the idea of planting anew tree or keeping a tree alive," said Mike Tanzini, tree andlandscape consultant at Ted Collins Tree & Landscape in Victor, N.Y.

Potted trees typically cost $50 to $200, Tanzini said, notingthat a landscaper could help deliver a tree to a home as well asdigging and planting.

Just as with the cut trees, homeowners may choose their ownvariety of evergreen. However, homeowners should consider theirlandscape before embarking on the project, Tanzini said.
